The applicable characteristics of OPGW produced by OPGW fiber manufacturers are:

(1) Lines with voltages exceeding 110kV, with relatively long spans (generally over 250M);

(2) Easy maintenance, straightforward resolution of line crossing issues, and mechanical properties suitable for large-span lines;

(3) The outer layer of OPGW is metal armor, which is unaffected by high-voltage electrical erosion and degradation;

(4) OPGW installation requires power outages, resulting in significant outage losses. Therefore, OPGW should be used in newly constructed high-voltage lines of 110kV and above;

(5)Among the performance indicators of OPGW produced by OPGW fiber manufacturers, a higher short-circuit current necessitates the use of highly conductive materials for armor, which correspondingly reduces tensile strength. When tensile strength is fixed, increasing short-circuit current capacity requires enlarging the metal cross-sectional area, leading to increased cable diameter and weight. This imposes higher demands on the strength of line towers.
